Nisar Ahmad Momand fled as a refugee for the first time from Afghanistan to Pakistan at only four years old. Nisar's father worked long hours for the Afghan military in Afghanistan before being forced to leave for Pakistan due to the unsafety. The father of ten worked diligently daily to provide in Pakistan, yet the family still lacked adequate food and clothing. The children were unable to go to public school because they were refugees who lacked citizenship documents.
Though it was a financial struggle, Nisar’s father managed to send the children to their only option for an education: private school. Nisar performed so well that his principal, teachers, and fellow students donated school supplies and money for Nisar and his family. Nisar went on to obtain a degree in Business Administration, then a Masters in Business Administration as well.
Nisar was resettled through RST and says the second phase of his life began with them. He volunteered 20 hours per week with RST, then went through cultural orientation training after four months and completed training in addition to 900 hours with Americorps. From the experience he built up, Nisar got a job with RST in 2016 as a resettlement case manager and Matching Grant Coordinator. Nisar, who currently works two jobs, gives credit to his father for his hard work ethic.
The father of four is now a citizen and the founder and president of the Momand Social Services and Consultation in Houston, and works for local travel agencies. Momand Social Services was established in July 2022, where most of the Afghans getting free services or with very small of amount money. Nisar Momand is helping , advising , educating and teaching new Afghans in Texas.
